Concert Revew: The Faint!
Sorry for my tardiness in my review of last Thursdays (10/23/08) show at the Freebird Live headlining The Faint. I am still recovering from one of the best shows that I have seen.
Ok…so to start off I had no idea who was opening. I was hoping that the bands would be good, but they’re opening. I usually find this a good time knock back a few while waiting for the reason why I came. The first band that went on was a Florida group called Summerbirds in the Cellar. They were great….no they weren’t great they were really great. Even with all the other bands equipment on stage they were able to put on good show. They have an electro indie type sound that I would almost say sounds like Interpol.
Next up….a crazy, shirtless, fat, sweaty guy; The Show is the Rainbow. I have seen this character before play at TSI and it seemed to be about the same show. He has prerecorded songs that play off his Apple Notebook. He sings and performs in conjunction with the recordings. He started his part of the concert off with the sound check. It sounded OK, but you couldn’t hear what he was saying….so I said….Hey…I can’t hear what your saying. So he called me a “Fraternity Asshole….” and some other pretty funny things. The whole place cheered for him ripping into me. Embarrassed me just gave him the finger, but oh well…it was fun. After about 10 minutes being on stage and al ready jumping in the crowd once (and then not being able to get back on stage) the shirt comes off. It was funny, but not funny at the same time. He also graced us with his new tattoo sporting his new record label. It would of been cool, but it was an extremely new tat…meaning he tore the bandages off on stage and then crowd surfed. I didn’t want to touch him. So in conclusion of this act I would say I had more things to say about his “show” then his music, but maybe thats what he is looking for.
Short pause for a beer.
Now the Awesome and Fantastic group known as The Faint came on. Now before this time I was finding it hard to listen to their new CD. I was really hoping that they wouldn’t just play new stuff and then one old song and call it a night. They didn’t let me down. To start it off they played a new song, but immediately followed up with “Dropkick the Punks”. Holy Moly!!!. They were able to take every one of their best, fast paced hits and wrap them throughout their new cd to create an amazing set. The band was lively like they had been waiting weeks to perform, but yet it was probably there 20th night in a row doing the same show.
After about an hour of me and 7 other friends just rockin out it was time to head home, but we didn’t we hit TSI for some afterparty fun.
There was only one small issue that arose at the end of the show. Angie got her foot stomped and she broke her toe
Jacksonville Florida is Going To ROCK!
Two of my favorite bands are coming to town next week…and guess who’s going to tear it up…ME!
The Faint and Portugal. The Man are playing in Jacksonville one day apart on the 10/23/08 and 10/24/08. Super excited is I.
I have never seen Portugal. The Man live, but I heard it’s a great show. I can listen to their CD all day so I’m sure the show will be great. They’re playing at the cool little venue Jack Rabbits located in San Marco off of Hendricks. Check out the venue site for tickets. My little sister is the one who got me into this group. It’s so different from anything else I used to listened to, but absolutely loved it. I would almost compare it to a Radio Head or Cursive.
Now The Faint on the hand is hands down the best show I have seen. They opened for Bright Eyes‘ tour Digital Ash in a Digital Ern about 3 years ago. The crowd was going off!…wooo…I’m so excited.
COME OUT for a great time!!!!!
Sometimes You Need Aladdin
Maybe it’s the brilliant role of Robin Williams as Genie or the creepy badassness of Jafar, but Aladdin is good flick.
I found myself completely enthralled in this little feature last night. The last time I probably saw this movie I was 17 watching it will my 11 year old siser, but that was like 8 years ago.
Anyway, I couldn’t believe how much I enjoyed it again. I was able to finally chill out and lay on the couch to a simple little film.
I think movies like this is what has screwed me up so much in relationships. I have tendency to just throw myself into something fairly quickly….Can you blaim me? Look at what Aladdin landed…hot little Jasmin…shazaam.
The movie seems to take place over the period of less than a week and their relationship progressed rather rapidly. I think this is also what makes adulthood so disappointing…you think you can just be cool and open with no worries, but nope…it’s all business.
So is it just me or is it out of control?
The other weekend I was working my night job and started asking about one of the other employees. I hadn’t seen them in like 7 months. It was this awesome 20 year old guy that just seemed to know something about everything. Anyway…it turns out that he is addicted to heroine. Really? Heroine?! That baffles me. I can understand certain drugs, but I have never understood whatever caused anybody to even try it or want to.
It’s exremely sad to know that somebody just completely screwed themself in the course of a few months.
I’ve never been a drug user. I smoked a few times and had “fun” in Vegas once, but drugs in general just weren’t for me.
I would say 100% of people I have met this year (outside of my day job…because they wouldn’t share) smoked pot. Out of those people I would say 80% has done/continue to do cocaine or 50% of those people are/were into other drugs like LSD, Shrooms, Heroine…etc.
This is my first year being exposed to it and it has just sort of hit me.
